Crowns

crowns

Over time our teeth begin to weaken and become more susceptible to problems such as decay, cracks, discoloration and others. If you feel your smile isn’t what it once was, crowns can help you restore your smile.

In some scenarios decayed or cracked teeth may require a crown. In those instances, restoring the tooth with a filling is not sufficient or ideal.

Crowns can be made from zirconia, porcelain, and gold. Dr Kropf will advise you on the material that is best to use in your mouth.

A crown will take two visits to complete. On the first visit, the tooth will be reshaped, any decay will be removed, and any structural deficiencies of the tooth will be repaired. Then a mold will be taken of that tooth and the surrounding teeth. This mold will be sent to a dental lab where the permanent crown will be fabricated. You will leave our office with a temporary crown on the day of your first appointment.

You will come back to the office 2-3 weeks after the initial visit to have the permanent crown inserted. Crowns are durable and are a great long-term restorative option. You should care for it as you would any of your other teeth with regular brushing and flossing. Call us today if you would like to learn more about how crowns can help restore your smile.
